PG Padmanabhan

P.G. Padmanabhan was born and brought up in Kumarakom a village 12 Kms west of Kottayam. Studied in local schools, CMS College Kottayam, Cooperative College, Thiruvananthapuram, and Government Law College, Kochi. His real life was lived with Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishat (KSSP), third world's renowned pioneer people's science movement in which he has been an active participant since 1972. He could carry out many systematic and participatary studies on Kumarakom. Being an insider and one among them he could observe the people of Kumarakom personally and intimatelly. His books on Kumarakom is authoritative.

He was elected the state convener organizing science forums in the Kerala villages in order to rally people’s participation since 1972.He was also elected the secretary of KSSP, Managing Editor of Sasthrakeralam science magazine for students. He was also on the Editorial Board of Sasthragathi, another science magazine published by KSSP. In 1985 he was the Manager of Science Cultural March Troup, which covered the length and breadth of India, presenting cultural programmes for bringing science to the masses and people to science.

In 1987 as a member of the Central Executive Committee of the All India Science Festival, he travelled all over the country to organize science groups in preparation for the Science Cultural March and set in motion the pre- and post March science popularization campaign. Since 1988 he practically switched over to full time voluntary social work with a part time lawyer’s job. In 1990 he was elected to the District Administration Council, in 1995 to the Block Panchayat and in 2000 to the Village Panchayat Committee. He was also elected later the Vice President of Village Panchayat, Kumarakom. He has written more than a dozen books in Malayalam and published some research papers in English related to various aspects of rural development. He has visited Japan and Vietnam.
